June’s Black Venture Network event marked a powerful milestone - five years since the global movement of Blackout Tuesday, a moment that ignited lasting conversations about representation, equity, and accountability within business and venture ecosystems.
The event, “5 Years of Blackout Tuesday: Supporting Black Founders, Investors & Professionals,” gathered leading voices, including Zoe, VP at Sequoia; Oliver, Marshmallow; and other ecosystem leaders who have been instrumental in driving inclusion across tech, venture capital, and entrepreneurship.
Discussions reflected on the progress made since 2020, from the increased visibility of Black founders and investors to the evolving ways organizations are backing inclusion with action. Speakers shared candid reflections on navigating systemic barriers, building sustainable networks, and ensuring that equity remains more than a momentary movement.
The panel spoke passionately about the importance of accountability and transparency within VC firms, highlighting how inclusive workplace cultures can strengthen innovation and impact.
